Kinesiotaping used to stabilize the shoulder

Have you seen this funny looking tape on your favorite professional athletes?

It’s called Kinesiotape, a product that we use right here at Advantage Therapy in Springfield, MO!

In this blog post, our K-tape expert Seth Owens, DPT will talk about how K-tape is used in our clinic and how it can be combined with Biofreeze to offer lasting relief for a variety of diagnoses.

How is Kinesiotape used?

K-tape is used to help facilitate the work we do in PT sessions while you are not here. For example, if the hands-on treatment techniques used in PT release a spasm or unlock a joint, K-tape can be applied in order to help your muscles not go back into that pattern.

Is Kinesiotape for athletes only?

Absolutely not! At Advantage Therapy, we primarily use kinesiotape on injured workers and people of all ages with back pain, ankle sprains, shoulder weakness, and more. It can also be used to drain painful areas of swelling/bruising after a trauma, reduce pain, mobilize a scar, and provide a correctional hold on a muscle or joint. Seth Owens, DPT uses Kinesiotape over other forms of taping because it influences your body to do the work and does not necessarily do the work for you.

K-tape is particularly effective when combined with a spray product like BiofreezeImage result for spray biofreeze

At Advantage Therapy-North we like to use this combination of modalities on more acute injuries (like sprains and strains) as once the Biofreeze absorbs into the taping over the top of an area, it will reactivate with sweat and moisture giving a longer lasting pain relief.

K-tape is used commonly to help rehab the following injuries:

  • Sprained Ankle
  • Muscle Sprain or Strain, even back pain!
  • Ankle and foot pain, even plantar fasciitis
  • Shoulder and Neck Pain
  • Pain relating to pregnancy
  • and more!
